About the Business

I have been an enrolled solicitor since 1995. During that time I have worked in several firms, mostly in the field of family law, in Perth, Dundee and Fife. Since 2010 I have run my own firm in Perth with many long term and satisfied clients throughout Perth and Perth & Kinross.

I have appeared regularly within Perth Sheriff Court for over 20 years. As such, I can offer you a wealth of experience as a Court lawyer. I have a strong background in family law; with a particular interest in resolving issues related to children such as contact and residence disputes.

I also offer advice on divorce and separation and I undertake some criminal court work, mostly in Perth Sheriff Court. I aim to provide reliable advice on a range of matters at a reasonable price. I also offer legal aid for some matters. Serving Perth & Perthshire, I am happy to offer you a free estimate upon enquiry.

Contact & Residence

Contact & Residence

Children: Contact and residence.

When relationships break down a potential source of real conflict and worry are the arrangements surrounding the welfare of the children. Where should the children live and with whom ? When can the children see their Dad ? What do the children themselves think of the care arrangements ? Or we simply can’t agree on arrangements for the children… how do we sort this out ? All are common problems that I have seen many a time and addressed over my career in family law.

You may already have a separation agreement drafted by your solicitor which incorporates arrangements for contact & residence, and this agreement is providing continuity & stability for the children. For parties where agreements are being flouted or ignored and negotiations are faltering then one can ask the court to make orders as the court may see fit to regulate contact and residence. I would always hope to resolve an issue like this through negotiation and agreement avoiding court action, however should an impasse be met and court action required, I have a great deal of experience in this area of family law.

The court, in consideration of issuing orders concerning children, will not exclusively focus on the merits of the claims of parents, with no parent seen as ‘ better ‘ than the other. The court will take a multidisciplinary approach by obtaining the views of the children, testimony from teachers, social workers, child psychologists and other expert opinion as the court may see fit. The court will always make a decision based on what is in the ‘ best interests ‘ of the child.
