About the Business

Whatever your immigration situation, you need an immigration lawyer with the knowledge, experience and dedication to ensure that you get the visa you want as quickly as possible. With over 30 years’ combined experience, specialising exclusively in Immigration and Human Rights Law, you can be confident that Stevens Machi Solicitors will obtain for you the best possible outcome. We are passionate about winning our cases.

At Stevens Machi Solicitors, we understand that the process of obtaining the correct immigration status can be very unsettling and time consuming. Applying for a visa is a minefield, not least because of constant changes to immigration law and practice.

Rest assured, we are here to guide and support you through all the possible pitfalls. Our wealth of knowledge and experience allows us to fight fearlessly and strategically in order to win you the result you want.

Both partners at Stevens Machi Solicitors have relevant postgraduate master degrees in law. Joanna Stevens was awarded an LLM in International Human Right Law specialising in international human rights law, international public law, and immigration law. Augustine Machi was awarded an LLM in Public law specialising in judicial review, immigration and human rights law. Both partners trained not only as solicitors but also barristers.

Unlike some immigration advisors, at Stevens Machi Solicitors, we are fully qualified to represent you in all the higher courts and tribunals, and in all applications including judicial review matters. As fully qualified solicitors, we are regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority and accredited in Immigration law by the Law Society. We are therefore exempt from OISC regulation.

Immigration Appeals

If your application for a visa has been refused or your appeal against a refusal has been dismissed by a tribunal or court, you have come to the right place. Challenging refusals of visas by the Home Office and negative appeal decisions of the tribunal or courts is our specialty.

We have many years of experience successfully challenging decisions all the way to the Court of Appeal, Supreme Court and/or European Court of Human Rights, if necessary. If your application for a visa or leave to remain has been refused, or you are unhappy with any other immigration decision made against you, Stevens Machi Solicitors can assist you in lodging an appeal or making an application for administrative or judicial review.

Immigration Appeals from Outside the UK:

If you are not in the UK and have made a visa application that has been refused, you will have 28 days from the date of receipt to appeal this decision. You must lodge the appeal within the specified time frame. However, you can only make an appeal if you have a right to appeal. If you do not have a right of appeal, you may be able to challenge the decision by administrative or judicial review.

Immigration Appeals from within the UK:

If you have had a visa application refused and you are in the UK, depending on the circumstances, you will normally have 10 working days to lodge your appeal with the Tribunal. You can only make an appeal where you have a right to appeal, however given the short timescale you should seek legal advice as soon as you receive the refusal if you intend to appeal. If you do not have a right of appeal, you may be able to challenge the decision by administrative or judicial review.
